Research Interests

  • Remote sensing algorithms and applications
  • Climate data records: development and stewardship
  • Uncertainty quantification of Earth observations

Dr. Matthews is currently a Physical Scientist at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) National Centers for Environmental Information in Asheville, NC. Over the years she has worked with NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center and NOAA on remote sensing retrieval algorithms and various applications for essential climate variables including atmospheric temperature and humidity profiles, land surface albedo, vegetation indices, and Arctic sea ice extent. As an applied mathematician she has continued interest in providing data users with uncertainty quantification information alongside observations. She is a proponent of open science and is interested in improving the experience for climate data users through data stewardship.
